Eveline Peeters

Group leader of the department of Bioengineering Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Eveline Peeters is trained as a bioengineer and obtained a PhD in bioengineering sciences at VUB and after some research stays abroad (Institut Pasteur, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen,..) established an independent research team in the Department of Bioengineering Sciences at VUB. Her group works at the interface of molecular and synthetic microbiology, probing how extremophilic archaea, bacteria and fungi sense and adapt to environmental changes. Simultaneously, she directs efforts to engineer microbial cell factories for the sustainable production of chemicals and materials, including a cross-disciplinary focus on developing mycelium-based biomaterials. Eveline Peeters was chair of the BSM Board of Directors from 2019 until 2024.
