• Emile Pierre Marie Van Ermengem (1851-1932), the discoverer of Clostridium botulinum and botulin-toxin.

• Jules Bordet (1870–1961), the isolation of Bordetella and his Nobel Prize in 1919.

• Jean-Marie Ghuysen (1925–2004) and the structure of peptidoglycan.

• Walter Fiers (Jan. 31st, 1931) microbiologist and a founder of molecular biology.
